Mass. man imprisoned 34 years for murder speaks out...
Mar.20.2026
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced it will not retry 64-year-old Tommy Rosa for the 1985 killing of Dorchester nurse’s aide Gwendolyn Taylor, ending a decades long legal battle. Rosa, who spent 34 years in prison before his 2020 release, had faced multiple trials, including a mistrial and a prior conviction that was overturned. His conviction was vacated in 2023 due to new DNA evidence and after our investigation raised concerns over unreliable eyewitness identifications. Prosecutors had initially planned a retrial scheduled for May. Tommy Rosa is the 100th innocent man to be exonerated in Massachusetts.
Our investigation also identified the likely culprit in the case, who bore a remarkable resemblance to Mr. Rosa and went on to commit numerous violent acts against women. It remains unclear whether law enforcement has ever followed up on this lead.
